Cogwheel is the
consulting activity of Bob Coggeshall. His
personal obsession with electronics began at the dawn of the
microcomputer era in the late 70's. He has been working with UNIX
technology since the first version was released from Bell Labs
around the same time. As a UNIX systems adminstrator during the
80's he delved into TCP/IP technologies before it became the
basis of the Internet. He combined his growing software and
networking knowledge with electronics by designing and
developing his own dial-up internet router before they became
commercially available..
In 1992 he moved to Hong Kong where he co-founded Hong
Kong Supernet (now Pacific
Supernet) Today,
Supernet is among the largest and most respected of the Hong Kong
ISPs. He went on to consult for Sprint International on location in mainland
China deploying the first public Internet.
During this time he was asked to
speak and provide opinion on the Internet industry to the Asian
Wall Street Journal and the Far Eastern Economic Review.
In 1996, Bob moved to
Seattle where he took on a variety of UNIX-related software
development assignments. From 1999 through 2002, he worked for an
internet firewall vendor where he served
first as a senior software developer and then as their R&D
manager. Two patents are pending for algorithms he developed.
In 2003 Bob returned
to focus full-time on his consulting business.
